VDSG Data Science Café Vol. I

Dear VDSG-followers!

After the very successful preliminary social event we are finally announcing the very first edition of the Data Science Café!

Preliminaries:

For all those of you who couldn’t attend the preliminary social event: There is a brief description of the Data Science Café further down! Here’s a quick link to the presentation from this event: DSC Presentation (http://bit.ly/2glOQI7)

Also, Join us on 19th October at the Data Drinks from Open Knowledge Austria:

http://bit.ly/2hIy6r7 . This well established and regular event is the perfect environment to meet new people interested on Data, and have a nice and relax talk with our future colleagues in the DS Café. We are going to be there, and we could clarify any doubt that you may have regarding our working modes.

DS Café Details

Based on the feedback we gathered during the social event, we are in the process of creating a set of dashboards for the purpose of displaying relevant information during the event! We are on good track, and we would share them directly at the Café.

Agenda for the event:

15:30 Informal gathering - meet the VDSG, talk to us, etc.

16:00 Reception: Official Start - Organizational and technical matters

16:15 Discussion of your ideas for projects, deciding what you want to do and with whom

16:30- Application of Data Science :) in the mode that you prefer. Remember it is all up to you! (See the presentation for more information about the DS Café modes)

IMPORTANT: In order to keep the organizational effort manageable we’d like to ask you send us an email to cafe@vdsg.at elaborating in one sentence on the following questions (feel free to comment below if you prefer that):

  1. Do you have a project idea (may it be crude or specific) you want to pursue with others?

  2. Are you are joining to team up with someone or to learn Data Science? If you are joining to learn, please tell us what you are interested in so that we can prepare the necessary resources.

What we provide: We are going to provide a nice location, availability of snacks and drinks, WIFI, resources and coaching to support the 3 modes and a shared R-infrastructure which you are free to use!

What you bring: A laptop, post-its, writing utensils, collaborative mindset, willingness to apply Data Science, your ideas and a crude notion of what you’d like to get out of the DSC :)

We are looking forward to seeing you on the 27th!

All the best,

Mari & Maks
