VDSG Data Science Café Vol. IV + Practical part: "Learn data science with Beer"

Dear VDSG-followers,

We are ready for the forth volume of the Data Science Café! Join us on March 23th at A1, participate in the Cafe, and at 19:00 be one of the volunteers for the practical part “learn data science with beer”.

To all of you who aren’t familiar with the DSCafe yet, have a look here: DSC Presentation (http://bit.ly/2ExZEL2). You can participate regardless of your experience in Data Science, just bring some enthusiasm and the willingness to talk to like-minded people around you.

We enjoyed a lot the third volume and all the activity afterwards on Slack. It is extremely rewarding to see how the community organizes itself around different common interests. People are gathering in groups and learning together, applying Data Science on real-life ideas and - most importantly - really seem to enjoy it :)! These are some of the topics currently covered: Big Data GIS, NLP through the Keep Current Project, Experimenting with Google-Cloud AutoML and Network analysis on Wiener Linien among other topics.

WHAT TO EXPECT As always you can expect a friendly environment with a significant number of peers to discuss Data Science and move to the implementation part. Additionally, we have big expectations in this volume, since the Keep Current team wants to share a lot with the community and the Learn Data Science with Beer is ready for the practical part! Here are the details:

KeepCurrent - stay updated on your favorite topics by receiving personalized newsletters with links and short excerpts of related articles - all happening automatically.

The team will be available to talk about the following topics:

Ulli will explain about unsupervised discretization techniques of continuous variables Tzvetan will demonstrate how to user Docker Vladimir will talk about NoSQL and how the system is architected

LEARN DATA SCIENCE WITH BEER! A special invitation by the Learn Data Science with Beer-team! At the last Cafe, the theoretical background for the project was laid, and now it is time for the “practical” part. We need YOU to generate data by drinking beer. There will be two challenges - one unblinded and one double blinded test. You just need to … drink beer!

FINAL DETAILS As usual, if you are planning to attend, let us know by sending an email to cafe@vdsg.at - or just let us know your email address in the mandatory field while RSVPing.

• What we provide: As usual, we are going to provide a nice location, refreshments and snacks, Wifi, resources and coaching to support the 3 modes and a shared R-infrastructure which you are free to use!

• What to bring: A laptop, headsets, writing utensils, collaborative mindset, willingness to apply Data Science and potentially your ideas.
