The second talk reflects on the terms blockchain, distributed data ledgers, etc. and motivates current research work in this area.

Doors open at 18:00. Hope to see you there!

  1. Martin Pirker: “Data…. on the Blockchain?”

The term “Blockchain” is commonly associated in mainstream media with various experiments of cryptocurrencies and resulting headlines of money laundering, spontaneous millionaires and curious coin offerings. However, with computing devices used by almost everyone (e.g. smartphones) and them being always online and connected, the idea of storing data in a distributed way, on various kinds of nodes, and utilizing a consensus and cooperation model instead of a central authority, is worthy of a reflection.

Martin Pirker is a researcher at the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten, Institute of IT Security Research. He is member of the newly started Josef-Ressel Center for Blockchain and Security Management, a 5y research project to investigate blockchain technologies and bring them closer to practical applications.
