Dear Data Enthusiasts,

The recent breakthroughs of LLMs and generative AI have hugely influenced the way we think about machine learning and it’s potential applications. We are dedicating this Part 2 of the LLM focus series to a topic which is not getting enough attention when developing ML use cases. Aside from the pure technical challenges, there is an increasing need for ML models to be well governed, trustworthy, unbiased and explainable. To address these (and many more) issues, the EU has recently adopted the AI Act in order to establish a legal framework.

Join us @ Cloudflight on 21.05. to learn about the recent developments and what their implications are on the possibilities of and requirements on ML and LLM models. It is our pleasure to present you two extremely experienced speakers in this field.

The impact of the AI Act on ML and LLMs Alexandra Ciarnau is Co-Head of DORDA’s Digital Industries Group specialized in IT/IP and Data Protection. She advises clients in innovative digitalisation projects in the field of artificial intelligence, blockchain, VR/XR, platforms, data driven business models, outsourcing and green tech. Her strength is that she covers all relevant legal fields, often acts as a single point of contact for client and strongly considers business aspects. Alexandra is further board member of Women in AI Austria and contributes to the policy team. Thereby, she considers ethical and socio-economic such as inclusiveness and bias in the tech field and provides recommendations on how to overcome these hurdles.

Cost Efficient Data Pipelines in Apache Spark Georg Heiler, Magenta Telekom / TU Wien Spark-based data PaaS solutions are convenient. But they come with their own set of challenges such as a high vendor lock-in and obscured costs. We show how to use a dedicated orchestrator (dagster-pipes). It can not only make Databricks an implementation detail but also save cost. Also, it improves developer productivity. It allows you to take back control.

🎤🎤 Open Mic We are going to open up the stage after the talks for community announcements.
