Description In the frame of the EU project MODERATE, we invite you to form a team, sharpen your data science skills, and participate in the 2nd MODERATE Hackathon focused on building energy efficiency. Link to the Hackathon website.
This hackathon is jointly organized by the VSC Research Center, TU Wien, dataLAB, EuroCC Austria, the Vienna Data Science Group, the EU project MODERATE, and e-think energy research, and will address an important way to improve building suistanability and reduce GHG emissions.
Background In Europe, the building sector is responsible for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. Improving energy efficiency in buildings is crucial to achieving sustainability goals. However, a significant obstacle remains access to quality data for training machine learning models. GDPR compliance and privacy concerns limit the availability of real-world energy datasets, posing challenges for researchers and innovators.
Synthetic data offers a groundbreaking solution by enabling the creation of realistic, privacy-preserving datasets. These simulated datasets can mimic energy consumption patterns in residential and commercial buildings, providing the foundation for developing innovative models and solutions to optimize energy usage.
Dataset and challenge Participants will work with a time series dataset representing building energy consumption. Generating reliable synthetic data enables secure, GDPR-compliant usage while preserving privacy.
Who can participate The event is open to individuals or teams of up to 4 people.
Hackathon format The Hackathon is in presence at the main building of the Technical University of Vienna. Food and drinks are provided by the organizers, and participants have the possibility to sleep over at the University.
Server All participants will get a temporary user account on VSC to have access to the server.
Registration To register click on this link. Note that enrollment is mandatory to participate in the Hackathon, as each participant will receive an account to access the supercomputer server.
Award prizes Amazon vouchers will be awarded to the top three teams.
Acknowledgments This hackathon is partially funded by the MODERATE and EuroCC 2 project
